You’re unlikely to notice, at first glance, the network of over 900 kilometers of bicycle paths (http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:BASE::pc=PC_934) in Brisbane, Australia. Even in the city center, there are superb off-road stretches that parallel the scenic Brisbane River. Better yet, you can take your bike on the city’s ferries and easily reach more open road. From a pedal through the historic Botanic Gardens, groups take a 20-minute ferry to the University of Queensland campus, a rural-feeling setting teeming with native birdlife.
